Labour Markets & Employment
For over a decade
Alphametrics has built up extensive experience on all issues associated
with European labour markets, focusing on both the European Union
and the countries of Central & Eastern Europe. Much of this work
has been carried out for DG-Employment of the European Commission
and key examples of our projects are provided below.
Industrial Restructuring in the Accession Countries
a study to examine past and potential future structural change in the Accession countries with subsequent evaluation of
their impact on employment structures and skill requirements, and to explore the policy options designed to address
labour force adjustment in the light of structural change. The study is being carried out in collaboration with
WIIW, Vienna and DIW,
Berlin for DG Employment and Social Affairs and is due for completion in autumn 2004.
Labour
Market Adaptability
In 2001 Alphametrics was invited by the European Commission to help
construct the first meaningful measures of labour adaptability. The
aim of this project was to be able to monitor developments in EU Member
States and throw light on the problems facing policy makers seeking
to make labour markets more responsive to changes in economic circumstances.
The study was finalised in December 2001. A summary of the results
of this study - plus selected graphs - are presented in Word 97 format
here.
Employment
in Europe
The annual Employment in Europe report has been the primary vehicle
through which the European Commission has presented its views and
analysis of the European labour market.
Alphametrics produced
the report for DG-Employment of the European Commission between 1989
and 2000 and was responsible for undertaking the in-depth analysis
of employment developments across the Union which it contains.
Analysis of the most up-to-date and comparable data has been the bedrock
of the report throughout and it has always been the intention of the
Commission that this data be made freely available.
To view a copy of the entire Employment in Europe Report for 2000
